Memory - main memory - RAM

RAM - The short term memory of your PC

The random access memory, better known as RAM, acts as the working memory within a computer. It is a flat chip that uses silicon technology to temporarily store data in memory modules. This state-of-the-art chip plays a really vital role despite its small size. Without RAM it is not possible to run any software. Have you noticed that your computer becomes slower and slower the more programs you want to work on at the same time? The most likely cause of this is insufficient RAM. The larger the RAM, the faster the access speed and the faster data can be read. To be precise, the RAM is not for storage but rather acts as the short term memory for your computer.

Expand the RAM now

The 1 or 2 GB of RAM that was used only a few years ago is now pretty much useless because the requirements on computing power of the current software has increased. You can however upgrade the RAM in notebooks or desktop computers at any time. You only need to take into consideration how up to date your operating system is. Windows XP and Windows Vista, for example, are not able to manage a volatile memory of more than 4 GB of RAM.

How much RAM you really need depends on your personal use. When using image processing, graphics, or video editing programs as well as PC games, you need as much memory as possible so your programs can run smoothly. The available slots on the motherboard and the size and type of memory already used, DDR2, DDR3, DDR4 or DDR5, are also important. All these must be compatible with one another.

In the online shop of ECOM Trading, we stock a large number of different types, sizes and capacities in brand name quality from Kingston, Samsung, Team Group, Crucial and Elixir. You are therefore guaranteed to find the right RAM so long wait times in front of the computer will be a thing of the past!
